Ferrari SF90 Stradale is a 986-horsepower plug-in hybrid

The newest Ferrari model, the SF90 Stradale, is the company's most powerful car ever, and happens to be a plug-in hybrid aimed at improving the company's environmental image. The SF90 Stradale has a 4.0-liter V8 and three electric motors with a combined output of 986 horsepower.
Ferrari SF90 Stradale supercar revealed. It's the company's most powerful sports car, and it's also a plug-in hybrid.

The least interesting aspect of Ferrari's all-new SF90 Stradale is that it's a plug-in hybrid with 16 miles of electric driving range.
This hot little number takes everything Ferrari learned from the LaFerrari and takes it to the next level. With a turbo V8 and three electric motors sending power

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale has just been revealed, and the most important thing to know is that it's Ferrari's most powerful production car yet with 986 horsepower. The next most important thing to know is that it's a plug-in hybrid with a turbocharged V8.

The powertrain features Ferrari's most powerful V8 yet making 769 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque on its own. It also has three electric motors with two at the front and one in the back, and combined they can provide up to 217 horsepower. This also means that the SF90 Stradale is all-wheel-drive.

Getting power from the internal combustion powertrain to the wheels is an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that shifts 100 milliseconds faster than the transmission in the 488 Pista, but it also weighs about 22 pounds less than Ferrari's existing 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This is due in part to not needing a reverse gear, since reverse is handled by the front motors. In total, the SF90 weighs in at 3,461 pounds. And at 155 mph, the aerodynamics add 860 pounds of downforce. When everything is deployed on pavement, it hits 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds. And for Ferraristi, it lapped the Fiorano test track in 1 minute and 19 seconds.

Ferrari SF90 Stradale Hybrid Is a 986-HP Technological Tour de Force ... the storied marque's first-ever plug-in and its most powerful car ever.

2020 Toyota Supra vs. 2020 BMW Z4

Without BMW engineering and components, for which Toyota ponied up development cash, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra wouldn't exist.
The 2020 Toyota Supra and 2019 BMW Z4 also come a BMW-sourced electronic differential (standard on the Toyota, optional on the BMW), but the tuning differs between Toyota and Bimmer. Furthermore, the transmission is identical between these two models, but it's not BMW-specific.
The 2020 Toyota Supra and 2020 BMW Z4 M40i have different personalities—and I've experienced both. Here are our initial thoughts on how
The 2020 Toyota Supra is finally here, and we have our first opportunity behind the wheel. Is it more than just a rebadged BMW Z4?

The Toyota Supra is back. But let's have some perspective, please. Nostalgia fuels our love for the last-generation car more than its sports car bona fides. Its price was outrageous for its time, and the resulting glacial sales actually killed off the once-booming Supra franchise (it sold a tenth of what its predecessor did). Since then, it's been lionized in popular films and video games, but when the 2020 Toyota GR Supra reaches showrooms on July 22, generations of fans will find a mature, Nürburgring-capable sports car, not the Tokyo-style street racer of yore.

The partnership that birthed the 2020 Supra coupe and BMW Z4 convertible makes the Bimmer the intriguing point-of-comparison, not a wholly unrelated Toyota that died more than 20 years ago. With all respect to the car's loyal tuner crowd, Toyota's job is to sell Supras, not to do fanservice to grown-up tuners or trade in nostalgia. Without BMW engineering and components, for which Toyota ponied up development cash, this Supra wouldn't exist. Nor would the Z4.

That's a win-win for anyone who'd like to see sports cars survive. As it happens, I'm almost assuredly the first auto journalist to have tested production versions of the Toyota and BMW back-to-back: I drove a Z4 down from New York for the Supra's first media drive at Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia.

For sports cars that share so many genes, they couldn't feel more different. The rightness of BMW's and Toyota's strategy, developing these cars separately using the same mechanicals, practically blows my mind when I jump from the BMW into the Toyota and back again – and it should impress anyone who does the same. When compared to the soft-top BMW that feels richer and more grown-up with heftier responses, the hardtop Supra looks and acts like a frisky, tuner-friendly Toyota – a fact that will immediately divide many enthusiasts into one camp or the other. The easy cop-out would be to say that the Supra and Z4 are different cars for different buyers, and that's true. But since I drove them both, forget cop-outs: Let's tease out those differences.

2020 Ford Mustang

2020 Ford Mustang Bullitt sports car price rises about $1200 over the previous model year. Nothing changes with equipment or features.
If you’re thinking about a Ford Mustang, then you’ve already found your god. You can choose either the V8 or the four-cylinder EcoBoost version—and don’t fret because there is absolutely no shame in the four-banger, especially now there’s the 2.3L High Performance Package.
With the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Ford brings back a performance icon with 700+ horsepower, unique styling and Ford racing tech.
The 2020 Mustang Bullitt is unchanged from the less expensive 2019 model.

Pricing for the 2020 Ford Mustang is slowly trickling out. We learned that the new Mustang EcoBoost High Performance Package has picked up a bit of a price premium, though some of that can be explained by the fact it gets the Focus RS engine. Now, thanks to initial reporting from CarsDirect and official confirmation from Ford, we know that the 2020 Ford Mustang Bullitt is going up in price, too.

The new Bullitt price is $48,905 including destination. The previous model came in at $47,690. That's a $1,215 difference, and the new Bullitt doesn't bring anything else to the table for the extra cost as there are no additional features or equipment.

But it also hasn't lost anything from the 2019 model, so the latest Bullitt does still come with various goodies that make it sweeter than a regular GT. It has an intake manifold from the GT350, along with a bigger throttle body and engine tune that brings horsepower up to 480 ponies while torque stays put at 420 pound-feet. It also comes with 6-piston Brembo brakes, a shorter ratio limited-slip differential, chassis braces and stiffer suspension. The Bullitt even includes navigation, power memory seats and blind-spot monitoring. And every time we've driven it, we've loved the car. So it does stink that it got more expensive with nothing to show for it, but at least it is a great Mustang

The 2020 Lexus RX350 and 450h hybrid get updates that improve the pairs styling and infotainment. The latter gets a touchscreen as well as
The updated 2020 Lexus RX SUV gets a touchscreen and adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability
The 2020 Lexus RX comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen, which can be used to control audio, climate, Lexus Enform Remote, apps such as Google Maps and Waze, Apple CarPlay and, for the first time in any Lexus, Android Auto. A 12.3-inch screen is optional. Both screens also work with a remote touch pad.
A host of minor update keep the RX and RX L fresh, and Lexus finally adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Lexus' top-selling vehicle, the RX, gets new looks and new tech for 2020. Check out all the details on the refreshed 2020 RX 450h and its RX siblings in the ... trouncing the regular RX 350's best effort of 23 mpg combined.
The 2020 Lexus RX350 and 450h made their debuts late last night, refreshing the fourth-gen model that made its debut back in 2015. The luxury crossover gets a number of updates, with the changes mostly focused on styling, tech and safety. The new three-row model carries over, too, with the second row sporting a set of captain's chairs rather than a full bench. The 2020 RX is set to go on sale in the U.S. in late August 2019.

The updated model doesn't look all that different than the 2019 model, especially from the profile. That said, the front and rear fascias have both been smoothed out, taking cues from the handsome LC coupe and LS sedan. All the lines look a bit more sleek, with thinner headlights and L-shaped blades in the taillights, again similar to the LC and LS. There's a sharp crease toward the bottom of the RX that carries across the grille, rocker panel and rear bumper. The grille itself gets a new mesh pattern. The interior is mostly unchanged, with changes mostly focused on comfort rather than design. Three-row models now have more adjustment in the back row, and the second row gets the aforementioned captain's chairs.

The infotainment system gets a much-needed update. While the frustrating-at-best touchpad interface is still present, the RX now gets a touchscreen, hopefully improving one of our major complaints with the system. The RX also gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, something long missing from Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Voice control can be used through Lexus' own system or using Apple Siri or Google Assistant. There's also a new USB port and a phone holder to keep things in place.

Underneath the skin, the 2020 RX gets a revised suspension setup and extra chassis stiffness, the latter thanks in part to new welds, high-strength adhesives and stiffer stabilizer bars. The RX has what Lexus calls Active Cornering Assist and a re-tuned stability control system to mitigate understeer mid-corner. The shocks, too, are revised to improve ride comfort and handling. Lexus says the suspension updates should improve steering feel, too.

Expectations have reached stratospheric heights for the 2020 Cadillac CT4-V and 2020 Cadillac CT5-V, and for good reason: Their ATS-V and CTS-V predecessors were potent sports sedans with gobs of power and handling and braking to match. Now the new sedans have been revealed, and they're not what we expected. They each lose two cylinders compared with the other vehicles, and on paper, they don't look as capable. But we do have hope that these won't be the end-all, be-all performance Cadillacs.

First, let's look at the cars. The CT4-V will be the base of the V brand, and it's our first look at the small luxury sedan. It has a roofline and window treatment more like past Cadillacs, eschewing the C-pillar garnish of the CT5. It also naturally gets dark trim and headlights, a unique spoiler and quad tailpipes to distinguish it as a V. Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder that is based on the engine in the new Chevy Silverado. It makes 320 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, a far cry from the ATS-V's 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque.

The 2019 Jeep Wrangler is the latest iteration of the iconic Jeep rock-crawler, newly redesigned last year with more features, power, safety and off-road ability. Offered with a choice of two or four doors, the Wrangler delivers the kind of open-air, off-road adventuring no other vehicle can match. Despite its many improvements, the 2019 Wrangler sticks with traditional solid front and rear axles and a choice of 4-wheel-drive systems. However, unlike Wranglers of old, this one actually delivers a reasonably civilized ride over paved roads, with a cabin that is downright plush on some trims. As the Ford Bronco is still another year out, the Wrangler has no real competition outside some off-road-ready pickups, and that’s just how Jeep likes it.

McLaren Senna

“The Senna is such a whirlwind of g forces, so Krakatoa-like in its speed and braking power, in only a lap or two it could easily reduce a NASA astronaut to a trembling, babbling impersonation of Linda Blair.” That’s what our Arthur St. Antoine said recently after driving the Senna for several laps around the U.K.’s Silverstone Circuit—and when you look at the hardware McLaren blessed the Senna with, you know he was pedaling a savagely devastating car and not peddling hyperbole. Do not mistake the Senna for an upgraded 720S: The cars share some basic hardware, but this is an entirely new automobile—the pinnacle of McLaren’s Ultimate Series range. Legal for street use and limited to 500 copies, the Senna uses the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 found in the 720S, but improvements bump output to 789 hp and 590 lb-ft. A slightly reworked seven-speed dual-clutch paddle shifter carries over. Top speed is 211 mph, but that’s not what this carbon-fiber McLaren, named for late three-time Formula 1 champ Ayrton Senna, is about. With its active aerodynamics, almost 1,800 pounds of downforce, and 2,900-pound curb weight, track-day lap records should be very afraid. After driving it, we know the F1 legend would be proud of his namesake. And if, somehow, it’s still not enough for you, McLaren plans to build 75 track-only Senna GTRs that will lap even quicker, priced at about $1.4 million each. Not interested in the Senna, whose looks might not be everyone’s cup of racing fuel? By year’s end we expect to see McLaren finally unveil the long-talked-about 243-mph hybrid-powered BP23 three-seater. Think of it as the modern follow-up to its legendary F1 supercar of the ’90s. It should land late this year.

The McLaren Senna is the personification of McLaren's DNA at its most extreme, creating the purest connection between car and driver. It is the most track-focused road car we have ever built, and it will set the fastest lap times of any McLaren to date.

When it comes to big, roomy and dependable family sedans, it just doesn’t get any better than the 2019 Toyota Avalon. All-new this year, the Avalon is offered with a potent V6 or fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain, an impressive list of standard luxury and safety features and a cavernous rear seat providing even the tallest passengers a comfortable perch. The ride is improved over last year’s model, with better handling and steering feedback, not to mention a quieter cabin. Although many competitors like the Buick LaCrosse, Chrysler 300, Chevrolet Impala and Ford Taurus are being phased out of existence, the Avalon still faces tough competition from cars like the Kia Cadenza, Kia Stinger and Dodge Charger, the latter two offered with a feature missing from the Avalon’s roster: all-wheel drive.

Based on the Civic hatchback, the Type R employs structural adhesives for improved rigidity and a unique front suspension that helps reduce unwanted torque steer. The Type R’s eye-popping styling has a functional purpose, or so Honda says, increasing downforce to aid with traction. Driving It

Driving Impressions

All too often, "hot-rod" versions of good compact cars wind up compromising the things we liked about the compact in the first place. Not so the 2019 Honda Civic Type R. Yes, it's quick: The 306-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder puts down power to the front wheels smoothly and, remarkably, without torque steer. Take it to a racetrack, flip the drive mode to +R, and it's as rewarding to drive as just about anything you could care to mention, practically egging you on to push its limits, and quicker than many of its all-wheel-drive competitors. Yet away from the track, on the daily commute, Honda hasn't forgotten that this is a Civic. The powerful engine also pours out plentiful torque, making it easy to drive in traffic. When the drive mode is in its Comfort setting, the ride is perfectly acceptable. In fact, maybe it's a little too civilized, as we'd like a bit more engine noise to filter through the triple-pipe exhaust system.

Luxurious, sporty and packed with safety hardware, Volvo’s new S60 sedan is an enticing player in the midsize-luxury-sedan segment. For 2019, the C-Class gets a mid-cycle freshening that updates exterior and interior design, adds power, and improves technology. It adds up to a compact-luxury car that easily stays in step -- or ahead, depending on your priorities -- of rivals like the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Lexus IS. Starting over $41,000, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class remains on the higher-priced spectrum of this segment, but we think its features and status justify the premium.

How much does the Bentley Continental GT Convertible cost?
Base price of the 2020 Bentley Continental GT Convertible is $236,100 (destination and gas guzzler charges have not been announced). However, most owners spend a considerably greater amount courtesy of Bentley’s Mulliner program, which allows the discerning shopper to specify unique veneers, hides, stitching, and paints for the ultimate bespoke experience -- if a discerning buyer can dream it, Bentley can make it.
A new lightweight platform with innovative sculpted body panels
The third-generation Continental GT Convertible shares architecture with the Porsche Panamera (it’s the Volkswagen Group MSB platform). That’s a good thing, as the new Bentley boasts an extended wheelbase (for a smoother ride) and better proportions (the front axle sits 5.3 inches more forward of the dashboard), yet its curb weight has dropped. Credit the loss of mass to an aluminum-intensive construction that includes lightweight alloy body panels crafted with an innovative Super Form -- it allows the metal to be bent into sharp, visually complex, body lines. And the new bodywork doesn’t just impress the eyes. It also cheats the wind. According to the automaker, the Bentley has a .29 coefficient of drag, which is notably low for a convertible.

2019 Honda Passport

Just when you thought there was no room left on the crossover carving station, here come two new two-row SUVs looking for space alongside our three assembled slabs of prime beef. We chose just three established middle grounders as foils for the the Chevy Blazer and the the Honda Passport because, come on—where do you stop? If we'd gathered the whole class, we'd need an extra magazine's worth of pages to cover them all. Then we'd have to rename ourselves Tranquilizer and Apnea.
So each vehicle here is either all new—though, yes, both the Blazer and the Passport share their platforms with existing models—or recently updated. Despite subtle feints toward luxury in one particular crossover's interior, these are normal SUVs for normal people, the kind that line your block. All are all-wheel drive, and their prices range from about $40,000 to $51,000. Certainly there were others considered: Dodge's Journey and Toyota's 4Runner are the right size, but the former is old enough to make a CD changer look new and the latter prefers rock crawling to mall hauling. And Kia's Sorento is exclusively a three-row ute this year, much like the Toyota Highlander, which gave up its five-seat configuration back when crossovers began crossing over.

2019 BMW X4 First Review

There may be no other manufacturer out there who caters to a wide variety of crossover buyers than BMW. The up side to that is that they offer a lot of vehicles that would qualify as crossovers or crossover alternatives. The down side is that it can get a little confusing. We recently drove the all-new X4, one of BMW’s Sport Activity Coupes, and if you’re looking for a vehicle like this, the X4 is worth a closer look.

What is it, Anyway?
The X4 is a Sports Activity Coupe – if you want something with ground clearance and visibility similar to that of an SUV, but want a vehicle that drives like a car and has a fastback shape, BMW offers vehicles such as the smaller X2, X4, and larger X6. (If you want lower ground clearance, there’s a 3 Series wagon. More utility with a less carlike ride? Choose the X1, X3, or X5.) While this vehicle isn’t one that will draw mainstream sales – just over 19,000 X4s total have sold in the U.S. since 2014 -- it isn’t supposed to: the X4 is not a mainstream vehicle.

What’s Changed
If you’re deciding between a 2018 or 2019 X4, which goes on sale this month, there are some key factors you should consider. The new X4 weighs less than the previous-gen, having shed as much as 110 pounds (depending on trim level and equipment), and is more aerodynamic. The 2019 model marks the start of the vehicle’s second generation and it’s based on the new-for-2018 BMW X3’s platform, which is a great starting point. The X4 has a 50/50 weight balance, the goal for vehicles that lean toward the sporty side. It has a lower center of gravity and wider track – also key for improved driving dynamics – and is longer and lower overall.
That added length gives the 2019 a few advantages over its predecessor. Not only does it make more room for cargo, but it also adds a touch more legroom in both rows. There’s also more headroom for everyone on board. However, if you need more than 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row (or 50.5 with the second row folded), you should consider the X3 instead, which offers 28.7 and 62.7 cubic feet of space, respectively.

Inside
Not only is the X4’s interior roomier, but it has a clean, updated new style. Navigation comes standard, with a large, clear 10.25-inch touch screen, which has been moved to the top of the dash. Vents and controls are now in a slimmer, more horizontal layout. These changes make knobs and controls easier to reach, while creating space for a storage area below the climate control settings. The seats are comfortable and nicely bolstered, and combined with the cabin’s muted noise levels, our extended drive time in the X4 was pleasant during a day-long drive. Lumbar support is standard with the M40i, and part of a $1,000 option package with the xDrive30i. The interior color combinations and materials are at the high-quality levels you would expect from BMW, with livelier color mixes than in the previous generation. Options include a Harman Kardon audio system ($875), wireless smartphone charging ($400), and front and rear heated seats ($350). Wireless Apple CarPlay is available – it’s free for the first year, then $80 a year from that point on.
The available Driving Assistance package includes lane departure warning, blind-spot detection, daytime pedestrian protection, front collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert. If you want to further expand on that, Driving Assistance Plus adds adaptive cruise control, which also stops and moves the vehicle in traffic, lane-keep assist, and front and rear cross-traffic alert.

The Drive
The X4 is available in two trims: the X4 xDrive30i, and the X4 M40i, both of which come standard with all-wheel drive. We started with the xDrive 30i, which we anticipate will be the volume seller. It’s powered by a 248-horsepower, twin-turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. While you may look at a vehicle of this size and wonder with some skepticism if a 4-cylinder engine offers enough power, there’s nothing to worry about: the engine hustles the 4,100-plus-pound X4 to 60 mph in six seconds. What’s better, though, is that it’s very easy to have fun in the X4. Steering feel is often a matter of personal preference. For me, the steering response is quite good – my favorite setting was Sport mode, which nicely tailors steering, throttle and transmission response for spirited driving, yet doesn’t make any action feel jarring when driving at a more leisurely pace. The transmission is smooth shifting yet has just the right amount of response. You can enter turns on a curvy road at a higher rate of speed than in an SUV, and the X4 feels confident and stable. It’s very carlike even though it has eight inches of ground clearance, the same as in the X3. When the road straightened out, we put the X4 in the more relaxed Comfort setting, and enjoyed a leisurely drive while noting the pleasantly quiet interior.
Our second X4 run was in the X4 M40i. As was the case with the previous X4, the M40i is the more powerful beast of the lineup. It uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, which has a bit more torque than in 2018 and the same 355 horsepower. The M40i’s features include an adaptive M suspension, with dynamic damper control to reduce body roll. It also has a differential lock; when the X4 is cornering, the lock works on the inner wheel to greatly reduce understeer. Many of the M-themed driving aids and features like the sport exhaust system come standard with the $61,445 base price (including destination). There are other items, such as the M Sport differential, that aren’t available with the xDrive30i, even as an option. The M40i is a much more serious track and street performer, and the power difference was clear within the first few seconds of driving. The more powerful X4 darts to speed in a short amount of time, only needing 4.6 seconds to reach 60. The M40i weighs a couple hundred pounds more than the xDrive30i, but you wouldn’t know it. The added M suspension and driver assists make this X4 a ball to drive on a winding road, and with more enthusiastic driving, the raucous crackling, popping exhaust is a bonus aural reward.

To Buy or Not to Buy
The X4 lives up to BMW’s promise: even though both vehicles have some commonalities, the X4 has a much more sporting attitude than the X3 it’s based on. One of the most polarizing things about this vehicle is its styling: its combination of SUV height and proportions and its coupe-ish shape isn’t for everyone. But if what the X4 offers aligns with what you’re looking for, it’s important to keep in mind there is a $10,000 difference in price between the xDrive30i and the M40i. For most people, the less expensive xDrive30i is all the X4 you would need: it offers rewarding dynamics with a powerful engine, and has the quality interior and amenities you’d want in a BMW. However, if you start adding options and the bottom-line price starts to approach that of the M40i, it may be wise to start considering stepping up. You get more power, many of the X4’s optional features become standard, and you can get an X4 that’s ready for performance driving.
